STONE COLUMN TESTING, WHEATSTONE
AustralYear: 2014
The Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project is one of Australia’s largest resource developments and the nation’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub – providing greater security of energy supply as well as significant economic benefits such as employment, government revenue and local business opportunities.
To facilitate the project works, CMR Tech was engaged by Austral. The Stone Column Plate Load Test included the installation of 12 stone columns and a resisting structure composed of 2 tubular piles and a beam running across the 2 piles. A column, a 3m x 3m plate and hydraulic cylinders were used to apply a force to the stone column area.
By measuring the settlement of the treated ground under the applied force, the Young’s Modulus was determined to confirm the design requirements. The work was completed off a crane barge.
